Is it possible to brush hard chrome with oversize molds?
Mold chrome plating is a remedy when the size of the mold is out of tolerance, and it is a method that must not be adopted. Because the plating is easy to peel off. If it is only to extend the service life of the mold, the first method to be used is nitriding. Nitriding can increase the hardness and wear resistance of the surface of the mold core and cavity, prolong the service life of the mold, and there is no problem of plating layer falling off. Only when the core size of the mold is small or the cavity size is large, chrome plating has to be used to save the mold. Otherwise, the main parts of a set of molds are scrapped, after all, the losses are much greater. When the various parts of a set of molds are properly fitted, due to the thickness of the coating, the fit clearances of other mating parts must be changed accordingly, which will increase a lot of workload. The nitride layer penetrates into the inside of the workpiece and does not increase the size of the external shape, so there is no problem of changing the fit.
